The long awaited singles from the band Inner Oceans are showing up on streaming platforms. Inner Oceans has had my ears for quite some time. I interviewed them during the 2014 FoCoMx festival on “The Imperial Records” and was thoroughly convinced then that this band was going places. Fast forward to now, and we have three new singles that have been released that are fantastic. It is always pleasant to hear that a band that is native to Colorado doesn’t follow the typical stylistic dead end some bands end up walking down. This record is going to be unique in Colorado when it comes out.
Ever since hearing “I Don’t Mind (Demo)” two years ago in the middle of the night while frantically searching for a band to cover for FoCoMx, I knew that I had found something different that what we had already covered in this area. The sweeping synth lines are produced with the aid of one of my favorite synthesizers: a vintage Roland Juno series, bring an unfamiliar texture to their music. Coupled with an understated yet present guitar tone and seamless, perfectly meshing vocal harmonies; creates a warm and soothing environment in an otherwise cold framework.
For the special, we decided that a fitting location for Inner Oceans to perform was on top of a hill overlooking the Colorado countryside. It took organizing a generator and a whole lot more to capture a live sound that would do Inner Oceans justice, at this point our special is a view into history, however, the performance that was given by Inner Oceans is still as relevant today as it was then, just take a look and listen to the full performance of “Call Through the Wire” at the end of the special to hear how the single off the new album has evolved and taken on new dimensions in its current incarnation.
Regardless of how their full-length album will turn out, one fact is sure at this point: it is going to be unique and sonically atypical to most of what we have been used to in the region. Like and subscribe for updates and give Inner Oceans a “like” on social media. We will be following up with them as the album is released.
