I’ve been having more frequent discussions with people in Fort Collins about business collaborations and growing things from the ground up, starting with absolutely nothing. Mostly because that’s how Feasting Fort Collins started out; with zero dollars in my pocket – no bank funding, no investors, no capital – nothing. Just a whole lot of blood, sweat, and more tears than I’d like to admit. By no means am I rolling in dough (frankly, hardly), but I’m still here writing away, with local businesses who help support these efforts, and somehow helping other people to bootstrap their adventures, too.
I didn’t hesitate for one second back in November when Weston from Easily UnAmused asked about collaborating on a joint comedy show with the bloggers in our network. I had been on an episode of Easily UnAmused in July, sitting on the patio at CopperMuse with a cocktail (or two) in hand and laughing away. It was a blast. It was on that show that I realized how much the Fort Collins bloggers and stand-up comedians had in common.
If you haven’t noticed, the local comedy scene is growing by leaps and bounds, by people who have the same mindset as the bloggers in this network. We’re all about the hustle, going against the grain, and doing things that traditional start-ups balk at. We’re all starting with nothing, trying to make something. And while it’s incredibly difficult to do in these parts, we still do it because we love it.
So, we’re teaming up, and with our grassroots, bootstrapping powers combined, we’re hosting Stand-Up Fort Collins – a night of showcasing the funniest comedians in Fort Collins. And the cherry on top? Our headliner is nationally touring comedian, Spencer James, winner of the 2014 World Series of Comedy in Vegas. NO JOKE.
We’re going all-in with two back-to-back shows at the Downtown Artery. There’s one at 7pm, and another at 9pm. Each show will have a different lineup of comedians with Spencer headlining both. I’ll be there if you want to chat about food and drink happenings, or I will be more than happy to talk your ear off about the latest and greatest trails adventures on Fresh Air Fort Collins. Some of the other bloggers will be there too.
You can buy your tickets in advance from the Artery for $10 per show. If you’re a procrastinator and wait to buy them at the door, you’ll get in for $15 per show.
A BIG thanks to the Downtown Artery for working with us on hosting these shows, and for our corporate sponsors Noble, Inc for making it possible to cover the event expenses so that people get paid for their work. We chose to work with the Artery because of their mission of believing that artists should be able to make a living in Fort Collins. And we’re down with not being starving artists.
