Whatcha Gonna Do? Stars of Tomorrow
The University Center for the Arts on Remington will host the Stars of Tomorrow Youth Talent Show on March 7 at 5pm. Ticket can be purchased here for only $10 (kids under 6 are free). I have been involved with this event in various capacities for decades; as a performer, audience member, promoter and judge. The Fort Collins Kiwanis Club creates the show. They are a non-profit Foundation and Service Organization that does wonderful things for the children of our community.
I had a chance to interview one of the musical acts that will take the stage and vie for the $1000 Grand Prize, trophy and bragging rights. The band Paradox consists of:
1. How did the band get together?
“We first got together back in the summer of 2013. Kenzie and Mason had signed up for a battle of the bands at Keptone Music. They needed a bassist and a guitarist, so they texted all of their friends to find the required people as fast as possible. One of Kenzie’s friends mentioned Darren and that he plays bass. Darren was then the recruited bassist. Only needing a guitarist now Darren mentioned some people he knew and Kenzie texted them right away. Finding James as a guitarist, we had then completed our band, Paradox”
2. What do you hope to gain from the whole Stars of Tomorrow experience?
“Honestly, we hope to gain FANS! We work hard, practice hard and it feels great when people like our music. We want to gain the honest feedback from judges…I want to know what we do right and what we need to work on to get better. We look forward to meeting all the other cool talented kids, too!”
4. Tell us how you chose your band name?
“I suggested the name PARADOX, because the word is defined as “a statement that contradicts itself but still makes logical sense”. PARADOX defines us as a band. Like, we are puzzle pieces from different puzzles but we still somehow fit together. We are one big contradiction combined…we are outgoing, shy, sporty, artsy, and everything in between. You wouldn’t expect us to be doing what we’re doing but here we are, and we love it.”
5. What can we expect from your performance Saturday night?
“High energy, fun, high quality music. We always perform with amazing stage presence. We really perform like we want to be there and that’s because we do. Performing is our passion and you will be able to tell that the second we walk on that stage.”
I’m really looking forward to hearing them play! There will be some amazing performers that night and it’s so wonderful to see young people getting on stage and showcasing their talents. I’m thrilled to be a sponsor of the program. Learn more about our local Kiwanis Club here.
